Are Phonak Hearing Aids Water Resistant

Don't Miss

How To Choose The Best Water

Phonak Audeo Life Hearing Aid Review | Rechargeable Waterproof Hearing Aid

Water-resistant hearing aids are rated according to how well they protect from water. Hearing aids are evaluated on their water resistance with two ratings, from one to either seven or nine, and evaluated by the International Electrotechnical Commission. The first number represents the degree of protection from debris, on a scale of one to seven, while the second number, from one to nine, indicates how resistant to water an electrical device is.

Looking at hearing aid ratings, then, a hearing aid with a rating of 68 indicates that its very resistant to solid debris like dust and sand and that it can still work in water less than three feet deep. Therefore, the three hearing aids weve reviewed above are quite resistant to just about anything that the wearers life can throw at them.

Hearing Aid Got Wet: What Can I Do

If your hearing aid has come in contact with water or you’re in a particularly humid place, it may be enough to wipe your hearing aid dry with a cloth. Most hearing aids can withstand contact with water or being submerged to shallow depths, thanks to nano-coating technologies. However, it is critical to act as soon as possible to avoid damage.

Features Of The Audeo Life Paradise

Waterproof to a depth of 1.6 feet

Accidently hopped into the shower with your hearing aids on? No problem. The new Phonak Audéo Life hearing aid is entirely waterproof, showerproof, and sweatproof in up to 1.6 feet of water. The secret is a unique housing and special coating called Parylene, which entirely seals the hearing aid and provides this protection against liquids. This substance also contributes to Audeo Life’s overall durability, being entirely impervious to rain and sweat.

The Truth About Waterproof Hearing Aids

is they dont exist- and they never really did.

Its a bit of a mystery to consumers who had seen the ads for now discontinued models previously marketed as waterproof.

The truth is that there are no totally waterproof hearing aids today, and there never really were.

Its not that the hearing aid marketers were lying, their claims just need a bit of context and explanation.

To make a long story short, in the last decade, hearing aids have seen tremendous improvement in water-resistance.

The protective plastic housing of hearing aids was improved, leaky external components like switches were replaced with sealed electronic components, and protective sealants were added to the internal and external components.

All of these improvements eventually resulted in hearing aids that could get really wet, even fully submerged, without suffering any damage.

The Aquaris hearing aid, pictured above and released in 2012, was one of the first hearing aids advertised as 100% waterproof.

Of course, a brand new hearing aid that survives a dunk in clean water in a lab test might not fare so well in salty seawater, a chlorinated pool, or in a pressurized stream of water after two, three, or four years of everyday use.

Considering this, maybe product managers at hearing aid companies got a little overzealous about waterproof hearing aids.

On the other hand, waterproof seems like a reasonable description for hearing aids that keep working underwater.

Drying Hearing Aids Properly

To effectively dry a wet hearing aid, the most convenient method is to use a hearing aid dehumidifier: there are various types on the market, from drying boxes to dehydrating capsules or sprays. A homemade solution, however, is to put the open device for a few hours in a dry place, but never in the sun. Using hair dryers or radiators to dry the device is not recommended.

Water Resistant Hearing Aid Technology

Hearing aids are created to withstand moisture in order to protect the electronic components. With the improved technology of many hearing aids, protection is important. Water-resistant technology can help users enjoy more activities without worrying about the hearing aids being damaged. However, dry hearing aids work best, so even if your hearing aids are water-resistant, they still need to be cleaned regularly and wiped down.

These types of hearing aids arent limited to people who enjoy water sports, or who may tend to accidentally shower with them in. The protection that water-resistant hearing aids offer can benefit those who live in very humid climates, too. Plus, the inside of the ear is a naturally moist and humid environment and therefore can contribute to the deterioration of the devices.

How We Reviewed Phonak Hearing Aids

NEW! Waterproof & Rechargeable Hearing Aids РPhonak Aud̩o Life

To create our review of Phonak hearing aids, we examined the brand based on price, the number of models available, the types of hearing loss covered, advanced features, comfort and fit, customer reviews, and warranty options.

We like Phonak because it offers lots of different hearing aid options that are often customizable in terms of size and style. Most models also include upgraded versions with four performance levels for different hearing loss needs. These upgrades add features like noise cancellation, tinnitus balancing, and the ability to adjust to different noise levels. Phonak also stands out because it offers the Lyric hearing aid, the only invisible hearing aid that is placed inside the ear canal and can be worn 24/7 for multiple months.

The drawbacks to Phonak hearing aids include the higher price tag, and the fact that pricing is difficult to determine on your own. Since Phonak does not sell directly to consumers, you must go to a hearing center for a consultation with an audiologist to determine cost options. This makes the brand less easy to buy, try, and return than some other options available for purchase online. Additionally, some customer reviews claim that the 1-3 year warranty is not long enough for such an expensive piece of technology.

Phonak Audo Life Hearing Aids Are First To Be Both Rechargeable And Waterproof

The latest hearing aid from Phonak was revealed today with rechargeable batteries and waterproofing. The Phonak Audéo Life is called “the world’s first rechargeable hearing aid that is waterproof, showerproof, and sweatproof.” This is the latest device in the Phonak Paradise line of hearing aids which we’ve taken a peek at up close and personal in review format before there was waterproofing, before there was a charging case like what comes with this new model.

Take a peek at our full Phonak Audéo Paradise Review to see what we experienced with the model released in the year 2020. This new model is very, very similar, with a few major updates to the entire experience. Including a charging case would have been enough to consider switching up but waterproofing brings these hearing aids into a brand new realm of possibilities.

The new Audéo Life model is waterproof in up to 50cm water, as well as entirely showerproof and sweatproof. This protection against liquids is provided by “a unique housing and special coating that fully seals the device.” This special coating is Parylene, and it contributes to the overall durability of the device, too.

Protecting Your Hearing Aids From Water

With Phonak Sky⢠B kids can be kids

Moisture poses the biggest threat to all consumer electronics, including hearing aids. The chip inside your hearing aid is extremely vulnerable to moisture. Damage to hearing aids from too much humidity or moisture levels from sweat are the most common causes, but water damage occurs in other ways, such as showers or swimming.

Exposing your hearing aid to high levels of moisture could compromise its ability to operate at peak performance. Here are some tips for protecting your hearing aids against water damage:

  • Purchase a Dehumidifier If you live in an area of high humidity, consider investing in a home dehumidifier. These can help to reduce the humidity levels.
  • Leave the Battery Door Open When storing your hearing aids, expose the battery to the air by leaving the door open. This helps condensation to evaporate.
  • Store Your Hearing Aids Correctly Make sure you store your hearing aids in a cool, dry place. Avoid leaving them in direct sunlight or a hot room.
  • Remember to Take them Out Many users damage their hearing aids by forgetting to take them out in the shower or when swimming. Be mindful of your hearing aids.
  • Get the Right Hearing Aids Finally, take the time to do your research and buy the right hearing aids for your lifestyle. Look for hearing aids with high IP ratings and discuss your needs with your audiologist.

It’s one of the highlights that shows how dedicated Phonak is to meeting consumer wants and needs by evolving Paradise’s technology with Phonak Life hearing aids. On first impressions, it is clear that Life was designed to enhance those with engaging and active lifestyles, but to also nurture wearer confidence.

In addition, Life was ultimately created to not only motivate and boost consumer confidence in seeking professional help in identifying a loss but to also ignore the stigmas of hearing aids and investing in the product.

Are My Hearing Aids Waterproof

by admin | Aug 17, 2020 | Blog |

Are my hearing aids waterproof?

After getting accustomed to hearing well with hearing aids, most of our patients actually forget that they are even wearing them. You would not believe how many of our patients have told us I forgot I had my hearing aids on and wore them in the shower! But, they always report that as soon as they realized they were wearing them, they took them off immediately.

Most of todays hearing aids are water resistant, not waterproof. So, what does that mean? That means that a little splash of water on your hearings aid should not cause you any harm.

It all comes down the Ingress Protection rating. An IP rating has two numbers. The first number can tell you how much protection your hearing aid has from dust and debris. The second number can tell you how much resistance your hearing aids have against moisture. You can find an example of an IP rating chart HERE.

So, lets say you are improving your hearing health with a Phonak Marvel hearing aid. This hearing aid has an IP Rating of 68. That means that dust wont enter the housing of your hearing aid and it is protected against long periods of being immersed in water.

What if you have a Widex Hearing Aid? Widex states all their hearing aids have an IP rating of at least 55. That means that hardly any dust will enter the housing of the hearing aid and that hardly any water was found in the hearing aid when tested.
