If You Have A Hole In Your Eardrum
A perforated eardrum is a hole or rupture in the eardrum, or tympanic membrane, which separates the ear canal and the middle ear. The middle ear is connected to the nose by the Eustachian tube, which equalizes pressure in the middle ear. A perforated eardrum is often accompanied by decreased hearing and occasional discharge. Pain is usually not persistent.
The causes of perforated eardrum are usually from trauma or infection. Traumatic perforations can occur from a blow to the ear, a skull fracture, or a sudden explosion. If an object such as a bobby pin, Q-tip, or stick is pushed too far into the ear canal, it can create a painful rupture of the eardrum. Never place a Q-tip down into the ear canal. On rare occasions a small hole may remain in the eardrum after a previously placed PE tube either falls out or is removed by the physician. Also if hot slag or acid enters the ear canal, it can burn a hole through the tympanic membrane.
Middle ear infections may cause pain, hearing loss and spontaneous rupture of the eardrum resulting in a perforation. In this circumstance, there may be infection or bloody drainage from the ear. In medical terms, this is called Otitis media with perforation.

To check for a perforated eardrum, doctors check the ear canal with a lighted instrument called an otoscope. Often, a doctor can see the tear and sometimes the tiny bones of the middle ear. In some cases, fluid draining from the ear can make it hard to see the eardrum.

- order a tympanometry to measure the response of the eardrum to slight changes in air pressure

Ear infections are defined by where they occur in the ear. When the infection is in the pinna, or outer ear, or in front of the eardrum, the condition is otitis externa or swimmers ear. If the bacterial growth is in the cochlea, the term is labyrinthitis or inner ear infection.
The middle ear consists of the space behind the eardrum but in front of the cochlea. This area houses the three ossicles, or tiny bones, that vibrate the membranes of the inner ear. An infection in this area tends to be very painful because it puts pressure on the eardrum, usually until it breaks. That pressure is also why you cant hear very well. The infectious material builds up and blocks the ear canal enough to interfere with the movement of sound waves.
The symptoms of a middle ear infection in an adult include:

The only treatment for a ruptured eardrum is time. The body will heal you. This can take up to three months. In some cases, you may need a course of antibiotics to heal any infections or prevent any infections so the ear can heal properly. For pain, generally, you can get the non-prescription kind, paracetamol, aspirin and ibuprofen. You can also apply a warm compress to it, which will ease the pain.
The answer is yes, digging in your ears can cause damage and tinnitus, so please be careful. If you do have severe wax build-up see a doctor about getting your ears syringed. You could also purchase ear drops. However, for the most part, earwax will fall out on its own.

Like we mentioned earlier, earwax is supposed to fall off on its own. So If your ear impaction symptoms are severe, you should visit your doctor.
Your doctor will examine your ear using a unique medical instrument called an auriscope or otoscope. This device magnifies and lights up your ear and enables your doctor to spot ear blockage, infections, and other illnesses.
Depending on your condition, your doctor may use one or more treatment methods to cure your tinnitus. Here are some of the widely accepted treatment options.
Ear Irrigation
Ear irrigation involves applying high-pressure water from rubber-bulb syringes or water pick to the ear canal to flush and dislodge the earwax. The flow of water into the ear may tingle or feel strange but certainly not painful.
Today, medical health professionals use electronic ear irrigators to ensure that the squirt or water flow into the ear is controlled at body temperature and normal pressure.
