How To Stop Your Post

Every concert aficionado knows and loves the feeling of a post-concert buzz after seeing their favorite artist perform. Whats less enjoyable is the ringing in your ears after exposure to hours of unsafe noise levels. Unfortunately, there is no way to stop tinnitus immediately, but there are ways to help manage the discomfort until it goes away on its own.

When To See Your Gp

You should see your GP if you continually or regularly hear sounds such as buzzing, ringing or humming in your ears.

They can examine your ears to see if the problem might be caused by a condition they could easily treat, such as an ear infection or earwax build-up. They can also do some simple checks to see if you have any hearing loss.

If necessary, your GP can refer you to a hospital specialist for further tests and treatment.

Ears Still Ringing Four Days After Shooting Ar

TL DR Four days after shooting, my right ear is still faintly ringing. Should I see a doctor?

ETA: Thanks for the replies guys. I understand it did long-term damage but the ringing will hopefully subside in a few days. If not Ill just man up and deal with it.

ETA 2: Its been ten days, ringing seems a tiny bit better. I went to a doctor today, he said I have acoustic trauma and the ringing will subside within 30 days. In the mean time he prescribed me a nine day course of prednisone to recover faster and lessen earaches. Also, he performed a hearing test on me and apparently my hearing is well above average for my age. So ya it should go away, now I learned to not half-ass ear protection during shooting.

OP: Four days ago, I consecutively shot about 90 rounds of .223 from my AR-15. It has a muzzle break so it sounds extremely loud to the shooter. My ear protection was not fully sealed while shooting.

Since then my right ear is still faintly ringing. It doesnt give me headaches but it hinders being able to fully hear out of my right ear and annoys me when Im trying to sleep.

This happened once before but went away after two days.

Do I need to see a doctor at this point? Should I give it more time to heal?

Ringing In The Ears And Loudness

How to Make Ears Stop Ringing After a Concert

If youve ever experienced ringing in the ears, you know that it can vary based on the day, time, and environment. Ringing in the ears can also change after a loud noise or loud music. But what happens in your ears when you hear a loud noise? And most importantly, is it permanent?

Basically, if you experience ringing in your ears from a loud noise such as fireworks, gunshots, or a rock concert, this is due to the hair cells in your inner ear. These hair cells send auditory information to your brain. Loud sounds damage the tips of the hair cells which continue to mistakingly fire. This causes you to experience the ringing noises in your ears.

What typically occurs, however, is that the body has a magical way of healing itself. Those hair cell tips grow back over 1-2 days. That is why the ringing in your ears after a loud noise is typically temporary. It goes away after several hours or sometimes several days.

But repeated exposure to loud sounds can cause extended damage to the hair cells. With permanent hair cell damage, comes hearing loss and ear ringing that does not go away. So what can you do to protect yourself from ringing in the ears from loud music or loud noises?

Can Tinnitus Go Away By Itself

In some cases, tinnitus may dissipate on its own, regardless of the cause. For others, it may be long-term or permanent, especially if auditory damage is one of the causes for your condition. Unfortunately, without proper diagnosis, it is difficult to predict how long your symptoms will last. Consulting an Audiologist will help you find the right rehabilitation protocol to resolve or help manage this issue.

Whether your tinnitus symptoms are present at all times, or come and go occasionally, it is not easy to perform your routine activities amidst the distraction of the phantom sounds in your ears. Moreover, keep in mind that tinnitus by itself is a symptom and not a condition. Hence, it may not help to wait for weeks or months in the hopes that it will go away by itself. If your symptoms last more than a couple of weeks, they may start impacting your quality of life. Visit an Audiologist to get clarity on the root cause of your tinnitus.

The Reason For Your Tinnitus Is Important

It becomes much simpler to mitigate the symptoms of tinnitus when you are able to recognize the fundamental causes. For instance, if your tinnitus is created by a stubborn, bacterial ear infection, treatment with an antibiotic will usually solve both problems, bringing about a healthy ear and crystal-clear hearing.

Here are some likely causes of acute tinnitus:

Ringing Ears After A Night Out You Have Damaged Your Hearing

Anyone who has gone to a concert or nightclub has probably experienced a ringing sound in the ears. This usually goes away after a couple of days, but it is annoying and bothersome nevertheless. People normally shrug it off, claiming its nothing to be concerned about, as loud music is an integral part of going out. The sound can often exceed 100 dB, the same as a helicopter taking off. At this level, you can only be unprotected for 15 minutes without risking damage. Ear plugs handed out at a concert are accepted, only to immediately be stuffed in a pocket and forgotten about. Public opinion is that the simple foam plugs impair the music quality, disrupt your appearance and are uncomfortable to wear.

However, that ringing in your ears is actually a sign that your hearing has been damaged, and this should not be overlooked.

After exposure to very loud sound, you may temporarily experience hearing loss. This is known as a Temporary Threshold Shift , and may occur with tinnitus. While it can be uncomfortable and frightening, it will usually pass, but it can also be an ear-opening experience that makes people take their hearing more seriously. Permanent Threshold Shift is, as it implies permanent hearing loss. WHO estimates that 1,1 billion young people are at risk for hearing loss because of exposure to loud sound in situations such as concerts, nightclubs and personal audio devices. This number is staggeringly high, compared to the level of awareness around the problem.

How Can You Prevent Tts

It’s highly unlikely you’ll get a temporary threshold shift out of nowhere, DeMari notes. Exposure to noise is the culprit. To that end, avoiding exposure to loud noises will prevent TTS.

Thats a guideline that seems easy, but can be challenging in the real-world, where you may find yourself unexpectedly exposed to loud machinery, or sitting in a movie theater where sounds can be between 74 and 104 decibels, per the NIDCD.

As much as you can, stay away from loud noises. Even small changes can make a difference: If youre at a concert, sit or stand away from the speakers, instead of dancing in front of them. Since duration matters, take breaks, too, stepping outside of the concert hall so that your ears arent constantly blasted with loud noises.

And wear earplugs. If its loud noises you dont need to hear , go for options that cancel all noise out, choosing earplugs with the highest noise reduction rating . But if youre going to a movie theater where the audio is super loud or a concert where youll still want to hear the music, look for earplugs designed for musicians, DeMaris suggests.

You can find these online, or get custom fitted ones from an audiologist. These earplugs attenuate the sound, but dont degrade the music, he says.
