Folate Fights Free Radicalsfolate Fights Free Radicals

Low levels of folate have been linked to higher incidence of hearing loss. In one study, steady supplementation of folic acid resulted in a slower rate of hearing lossparticularly in the frequencies associated with speech.

How does folate improve hearing? A few things seem to be at play. First, folic acid appears to help the body metabolize homocysteine, an amino acid that can reduce and impair blood flow to the inner ear . Research strongly suggests that proper metabolization of this amino acid plays a significant role in the development and progression of sensorineural hearing loss.

Folates are also an antioxidant that helps fight off free radicalsthose pesky little molecules that have gained a reputation for causing a whole host of issues in the body over time. Free radical activity can reduce blood flow to the inner ear, as well as damage our ears delicate sensory cells needed for healthy hearing. And once those cells are destroyed, they cannot grow back.

What sparks free radical production? Often, its a stressor on the body, such as excessive or loud noise. Research has shown exposure to loud noise triggers an increase in formation of these damaging free radicals.

Constant ringing in ears â Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment â The Health ...

Occasional exposure to loud noise can bring about temporary tinnitus. Ringing thats accompanied by a muffled sound may also indicate noise-induced hearing loss. These symptoms often go away within 16 to 48 hours. In extreme cases, it may take a week or two. Further exposure to extremely loud noises can also trigger the ringing again.

Sometimes this hearing loss can develop into tinnitus that lasts more than six months. This is a common condition that may cause long-term issues, but is rarely a sign that youre going deaf or have a medical problem.

If youre a frequent concertgoer, performing musician, or find yourself exposed to loud noises often, you may want to take steps to prevent long-term hearing loss.

Hearing loss is expected to rise dramatically in the coming decades. Learn more about it.

Its always a good idea to take steps to keep tinnitus at bay. Research shows that even if the ringing disappears, there may be residual long-term damage.

  • Understand what noises cause hearing damage, including concerts, motorcycles, and playing music at the loudest volume.
  • Wear earplugs when attending concerts. Some venues may sell cheap foam ones at coat check.
  • Limit how much alcohol you drink during a show or area with loud music. Blood flow to your ears can increase the sound of ringing.
  • Have your hearing tested if you think you may have hearing loss.

Modified Or Customized Sound Machines

Sound-masking devices help to cover the sound of tinnitus while youre using them, but they have no long lasting effects.

Modern medical-grade devices can be used to create customized sounds tailored specifically to your tinnitus. Unlike regular sound machines, these devices are only worn occasionally.

You might be able to experience benefits after the device is turned off. Over time, you may notice long-term improvement in the loudness of your tinnitus.

In 2017, researchers found that these devices were usually more effective than things like white noise at reducing tinnitus symptoms. However, these devices can be costly and are often not covered by insurance.

Tinnitus Linked To Vitamin B12 Deficiency

Among the roles that vitamin B12 performs is keeping your blood and nerve cells healthy, as well as help in making DNA, the genetic material present in all cells. You can bet sufficient amounts of vitamin B12 in your diet. For those who follow a purely vegan diet, may struggle to fill the amount required by the body. This is because plant-based foods have very little to none of this important nutrient. This is why vegans are oftentimes at a higher risk of suffering from vitamin B12 deficiency.

A Warning Sign In the Ear

The National Health Service reveals that tinnitus noises may take on a buzzing or ringing sound. Sometimes you may hear some hissing, humming, throbbing, and even whooshing sounds. In some instances, you may hear singing or music being played, though not from an external source.

The sounds may be heard by one or two ears at times, it may even play in your head. The sounds can come and go, or in some cases, you may continuously hear them.

The Tinnitus and B12 Deficiency Connection

LiveStrong, a medical website, reveals that you need B12 to create myelin, the insulative and protective cover that surrounds the nerves. If you lack B12, communication between your nerves may begin to deteriorate, a damaged mechanism that leads to tinnitus.

Treating B12 Deficiency

B12 deficiency symptoms can be treated with B12 tablets or injections. There are two types of B12 injections, namely, hydroxocobalamin and cyanocobalamin.

Can Cbd Help Treat Tinnitus

How to get rid of Tinnitus naturally

CBD is extracted from the Cannabis Sativa plant, specifically from the hemp species. In its oil form, it can be taken sublingually or added to food. Unlike THC, the second major compound in cannabis, CBD wont get you high because it doesnt have intoxicating properties.

The legal status of CBD is a bit foggy. CBD oils extracted from hemp are legal in all 50 states under the 2018 Farm Bill, while marijuana-derived CBD oil is allowed only in places that have medical or recreational marijuana laws. Moreover, hemp-derived CBD oil doesnt require a doctors prescription.

In recent years, CBD has been touted for its therapeutic versatility. Its use in tinnitus particularly in terms of subjective tinnitus is being investigated by scientists. The reason why medical researchers are interested in testing the efficacy of CBD for tinnitus lies in limited evidence suggesting subjective tinnitus is triggered by an overactive brain.

Medications that are prescribed to calm the brain down, such as those for ADHD or seizure disorders, are sometimes recommended by doctors to patients with subjective tinnitus. However, these drugs have several dangerous side effects that are often worse than the condition.

Since CBD can mitigate the brains hyperactivity, it could potentially help with tinnitus symptoms as well. Whats more important, CBD can do it without the aforementioned side effects.

  • Ensure you get regular, quality sleep each night.

Can Ears Heal After Loud Noises

Limit your exposure to loud noises. While the ears may frequently recover from injury, it is nevertheless crucial to limit your exposure to loud sounds if you have tinnitus. This may imply speaking quietly, avoiding noisy pubs or gatherings, and refraining from using in-ear headphones… which can be damaging to hearing.

If you are exposed to loud noises on a regular basis, there are two ways in which your ear doctors may advise you to protect your hearing: by wearing ear protection or by seeing how well your body recovers after being exposed to noise.

Wearing proper ear protection when involved in activities where hearing loss is likely is the best way to protect your hearing. There are several different types of protective devices available for use in different situations. For example, musicians often wear “muffs” or headphone covers to prevent sound waves from reaching their ears. Radiologists who work with medical imaging equipment may need to wear special headgear to avoid exposing themselves to radiation.

In general, if you are exposed to loud noises but do not suffer any damage, your body will make every effort to restore lost hearing by growing new cells that function similarly to the original ones. This process is called “healing.”

However, this ability to repair damage is limited to certain injuries. If you have recently lost some hearing due to disease or aging, your chances of recovery are very low.

    Hearing Aids For Tinnitus

Many modern hearing aids include tinnitus features to help mask unwanted sounds.

Today’s hearing aids include tinnitus features to help mask unwanted sounds. These often come with smartphone apps to help you learn behavioral and relaxation techniques for managing tinnitus.

    True Or False: Can Lipo

Causes of Shrill High Pitched Ringing in Ears

Lipo-Flavonoid is an over-the-counter supplement that contains ingredients like vitamins B-3, B-6, B-12, and C. Its main active ingredient is a proprietary blend that includes eriodictyol glycoside, which is the fancy word for a flavonoid found in lemon peels.

All of the nutrients and vitamins in the supplement Lipo-Flavonoid are believed to work together to improve the circulation inside your inner ear. Problems with blood flow are sometimes to blame for tinnitus.

How helpful is this supplement really? There isnt lot of scientific research to tell us, but the few studies that have been done werent encouraging.

A small study randomly assigned 40 people with tinnitus to take either a combination of manganese and a Lipo-Flavonoid supplement, or the Lipo-Flavonoid supplement alone.

Of this small sample, two people in the latter group reported a decrease in loudness, and one noted a drop in annoyance.

But all in all, the authors couldnt find enough evidence that Lipo-Flavonoid helps with tinnitus symptoms.

Lipo-Flavonoid contains added ingredients such as food dyes and soy that may cause side effects for certain people who are sensitive to these ingredients.

The American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery doesnt recommend Lipo-Flavonoid to treat tinnitus because of the lack of evidence that it works. Research has uncovered other treatments and supplements that have better benefits.
