Secret Military Technology Reverses Hearing Loss

Why I Take Niacin (Vitamin B3) Everyday!

The U.S. military is worried about the hearing loss of its soldiers

Every day during basic training, our men and women in uniform fire hundreds of rounds of ammunition per minute. The noise from their M-16 assault rifles is deafening.

More than half of all U.S. soldiers experience moderate to severe damage to their ears by the time they leave the service.

In fact, hearing loss is the No. 1 disability our soldiers face.

So researchers at the Marine Corps Base at Camp Pendleton recruited 1,000 mariNes going through rifle training. All were given a standard hearing test.

Then researchers gave 566 marines a powerful amino acid three times a day for a month. The other marines took a placebo.

A second hearing test after the studys conclusion found that 70% of the soldiers who took the amino acid had dramatically less hearing loss.1

The powerful secret weapon the soldiers were given was an amino acid called N-acetyl-cysteine .

The researchers found that NAC protected the tiny ear hairs in the soldiers ears. They had less damage and also less ringing in their ears.

NAC is so effective our military now uses it to protect sOldiers from blast noise, gunfire and explosions.2

You may not be subjected to the same level of noise these marines faced during their rifle training.

But every day you are bombarded with ear-splitting sounds from our modern world. Things like roaring traffic, screeching trains, leaf blowers, lawn mowers and high-speed blenders.

How To Treat Niacin Overdose

Knowing how much niacin is too much can help you determine whether you have taken too much. If you believe you are getting excess niacin or you experience side effects, speak to your doctor.

If you have overdosed on supplements, seek medical help immediately. At the emergency department, certain medications might help, or gastric lavage might be used to rid the stomach of any supplements left there. Severe overdoses require careful monitoring to ensure no heart problems and other dangerous issues.

Forms Of Vitamin B3 Supplements

Vitamin B3 supplements are available in two common forms, niacin and niacinamide. Niacin is also known as nicotinic acid, and niacinamide is sometimes referred to as nicotinamide. Some pharmaceutical companies market drug versions of niacin.

The niacin and niacinamide forms of vitamin B3 are equivalent in most respects. However, only niacin improves cholesterol levels niacinamide does not.

The niacin form of vitamin B3 causes a brief and sometimes intense flushing of the skin, which may last about an hour. The niacinamide form does not cause flushing.

How Much Niacin Or Niacinamide Should You Take

Niacin Benefits

Make sure your multivitamin or B-complex supplement contains at least 50 mg of niacin or niacinamide. To lower cholesterol, take 500 to 1,000 mg of niacin daily. For treating recent-onset schizophrenia, physicians have found that 3 g of niacin and 3 g of vitamin C are helpful, though larger amounts may be needed.

Product Examples

NOW Foods Flush-Free Niacin is specially formulated to avoid the niacin flush, a tingling red rash on the skin common after taking high-dose niacin supplements. It contains inositol hexanicotinate, a stable form of niacin that does not cause the skin to flush, but delivers B3 in high doses to help maintain healthful cholesterol levels and lift mood.

Natrol Niacin TR time release Niacin plays an important role in cholesterol metabolism, and no-flush Natrol Niacin TR Time Release can help keep cholesterol levels within the normal range. The timed-release technology of this product allows the body to absorb higher doses of niacin without flushing.

Solgar No-Flush Niacin capsules are made with no animal products, making them ideal for vegetarians and vegans, and theyre kosher. They are sugar-, starch-, and salt-free, and are made without corn, yeast, wheat, or soy.

Hearing Loss Is Far More Dangerous Than You Might Imagine

Hearing loss isnt high on the list of most peoples health concerns. In fact, many wouldnt consider it a health issue at all, but rather, a natural part of aging.

Meanwhile, dementia risk is a top health concern for millions of Americans.

Unfortunately, most people are completely unaware of the connection between hearing loss and dementia.

And as research reveals, this connection runs much deeper than you might imagine

Atherosclerosis And Heart Disease

In one study, men with existing heart disease slowed down the progression of atherosclerosis by taking niacin along with colestipol. They experienced fewer heart attacks and deaths, as well.

In another study, people with heart disease and high cholesterol who took niacin along with simvastatin had a lower risk of having a first heart attack or stroke. Their risk of death was also lower. In another study, men who took niacin alone seemed to reduce the risk of having a second heart attack, although it did not reduce the risk of death.

Your Environment And Eating Habits Affect Your Ears

About two in 10 of all adults have hearing issues. But that percentage jumps to one in three among those in their mid-60s.

The reasons behind this are more than just simple aging. In his Insiders Ultimate Guide to Outsmarting Old Age, Dr. Marc Micozzi points out, Scientists are discovering that our ears appear to be sensitive to environmental stresses such as oxidation and inflammation, and are also vulnerable to nutrient insufficiency.

So that means hearing loss may actually act as an early indicator of inadequate nutrition and a toxic environment like the proverbial canary in a coal mine.

But Dr. Micozzi points out that hearing problems dont have to be an inevitable part of growing old. He cites new research that shows how boosting your intake of just a few basic vitamins and minerals can dramatically improve your hearing.

Vitamin Supplement Successfully Prevents Noise

5 Tips for Living with Hearing Loss

Dr. Samie Jaffrey. Photo credit: Robert Essel

NEW YORK and SAN FRANCISCODecember 2, 2014Researchers from Weill Cornell Medical College and the Gladstone Institutes have found a way to prevent noise-induced hearing loss in a mouse using a simple chemical compound that is a precursor to vitamin B3. This discovery has important implications not only for preventing hearing loss, but also potentially for treating some aging-related conditions that are linked to the same protein.

in Cell Metabolism, the researchers used the chemical nicotinamide riboside to protect the nerves that innervate the cochlea. The cochlea transmits sound information through these nerves to the spiral ganglion, which then passes along those messages to the brain. Exposure to loud noises damages the synapses connecting the nerves and the hair cells in the cochlea, resulting in noise-induced hearing loss.

The researchers set about trying to prevent this nerve damage by giving mice NR before or after exposing them to loud noises. NR was successful at preventing damage to the synaptic connections, avoiding both short-term and long-term hearing loss. Whats more, NR was equally effective regardless of whether it was given before or after the noise exposure.

Methods for synthesizing NR were recently developed by Dr. Anthony Sauve, a professor of pharmacology at Weill Cornell and co-author of the study. This resulted in quantities of NR that were sufficient to test in animals.

Boosting Nad+ To Reverse Aging Overview Of Nr And Nmn

Nicotinamide riboside and nicotinamide mononucleotide are two supplements that have taken the longevity and anti-aging world by storm. With animal studies showing exciting results including reversal of age-related diseases, these supplements are an exciting glimpse into the future of reversing aging.

Just a heads up, so you arent disappointed: There is little research, as of yet, into the ways that genetic differences impact NR or NMN. Instead, I will dig into the science of how NR and NMN work, the research that has been done on NR and NMN, and then explain the connections with sirtuins, PARPs, and aging. I will also dig into genetic variants that impact the bodys production of NAD+ and the relation to sirtuin gene variants. ButI cant tell you, based on your genes, whether you should take NR or NMN 🙂

  • What Is Vitamin B3

Vitamin B3, also known as niacin, is actually made up of niacin and niacinamide. It is a water-soluble nutrient that is part of the B vitamin family. B vitamins help to support adrenal function, to calm and maintain a healthy nervous system, and are necessary for key metabolic processes. Niacin is essential for the metabolism of carbohydrates and fats.

    How Vitamin B3 Works

Vitamin B3 works in several different ways. It improves the metabolism of fats, resulting in a reduction of cholesterol levels. The vitamin provides the chemical foundation of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, which plays a central role in breaking down food molecules for energy. It also prevents the oxidation of adrenochrome, a neurotoxic brain chemical that can cause hallucinations.

    The Restorative Powers Of Antioxidants

Niacin Benefits, Uses and Side Effects of Vitamin B3 ...

Lets begin with antioxidants an ideal starting point because, as Dr. Micozzi points out, The presence of free radical chemicals in the inner ear is a key factor in hearing loss, suggesting that antioxidants may play an important role in prevention and treatment.

Dr. Micozzi cites several animal and human trials that demonstrate how antioxidant vitamins A and C prompt better hearing of normal speech and high-frequency ranges of sound.

Meanwhile, magnesium is a proven antioxidant booster that delivers other beneficial effects too. Dr. Micozzi explains, Its thought that this versatile mineral helps restore blood flow to the hearing apparatus of the ear following damage by excessive noise.

Dr. Micozzi recommends 500 mg, twice daily, of vitamin C, and 200 mg of magnesium every day. And for good measure, he recommends another key antioxidant: Vitamin E at 50 IU daily.

As for vitamin A, we currently dont have conclusive data on the optimal daily dose, so Dr. Micozzi recommends getting your vitamin A from food sources, particularly fresh dairy, fish , and meat .

And he adds, You should also include lots of red-orange fruits and vegetables in your diet , and green-leafy vegetables for other carotenoids such as lutein. Lutein is important for brain and eye health, and I suspect it benefits hearing as well.

You can now also get the carotenoid astaxanthin, together with liquid vitamin D. I recommend 10,000 IU of vitamin D plus astaxanthin daily.

    Magnesium Prevents Inner Ear Damage

Noise-induced hearing loss is a significant health issue among adults. However, researchers have found magnesium may play an important role in protecting our ears from the damaging effects of noise. Loud sounds prompt the production of free radical molecules in our ear, which damage the delicate hair cells of the inner ear. Since these hair cells are needed to transmit sound from the ear to the brain, this damage can result in noise-induced hearing loss.

The good news: evidence suggests that magnesium is an important ear health mineral because it helps block the activity of these cell-damaging molecules. In one study, 300 subjects who were given a magnesium supplement before prolonged exposure to loud noise were significantly less likely to develop noise-induced hearing loss than the control group.

Many people with noise-induced hearing loss also suffer from tinnitus. Magnesium has been shown to relieve the severity of tinnitus symptoms. A healthy supply of magnesium also keeps the blood vessels relaxed, allowing adequate blood to flow throughout the body, including through the vessels in the inner ear.

    Can Niacin Cure Tinnitus

    A man wrote:

Several years ago at a hearing clinic, I told the young lady that I had ringing in my ears. She asked me if I had ever taken Niacin, and I hadnt. She said it helps some people. I took Niacin pills for a good while, and it seemed to rid me of the ringing in the ears. I did get a flushing from taking Niacin. She suggested Niacinamide, and that seemed to help the flushing.

For one reason or another, I have not had ringing in my ears for a lot of years, so I no longer take Niacin or Niacinamide.

I would like your thoughts about taking Niacin or Niacinamide for ringing in the ears. Do you know of a connection here, or was it helping me a fluke?

Niacin is the form of Vitamin B3, that helps some people with tinnitus because it increases blood flow to the peripherals which includes the inner ears .

Note: The niacinamide form of Vitamin B3 does not cause flushing so wont help tinnitus caused by reduced blood flow.

If your tinnitus is caused by a lack of blood to your inner ears, then taking Niacin really can workits not a fluke. However, Niacin does not work for everyone with tinnitusonly for those with circulation problems to their inner ears that result in tinnitus. For example, nothing Ive tried has helped my tinnitus because mine is probably the result of my severe hearing loss, not lack of blood flow to my inner ears.

    As A Dietary Supplement

In the United States, niacin is sold as a non-prescription dietary supplement with a range of 100 to 1000 mg per serving. These products often have a Structure/Function health claim allowed by the US Food & Drug Administration . An example would be “Supports a healthy blood lipid profile.” The American Heart Association strongly advises against the substitution of dietary supplement niacin for prescription niacin because of potentially serious side effects, which means that niacin should only be used under the supervision of a health care professional, and because manufacture of dietary supplement niacin is not as well-regulated by the FDA as prescription niacin. More than 30 mg niacin consumed as a dietary supplement can cause skin flushing. Face, arms and chest skin turns a reddish color because of vasodilation of small subcutaneous blood vessels, accompanied by sensations of heat, tingling and itching. These signs and symptoms are typically transient, lasting minutes to hours they are considered unpleasant rather than toxic.

Niacin is a part of the B group of vitamins, also called vitamin B3. It plays a role in our nervous system function and metabolism, helping us turn the food we eat into energy. Our cells also need niacin to function and develop.

Niacin has also been shown to be a powerful nutrient for heart health. In fact, doctors will sometimes prescribe niacin supplements alongside statins to help people struggling with high cholesterol. For that reason, niacin supplements are often touted for having heart-healing benefits, and many choose to self-treat with them. However, this may not be such a smart move.

    How To Take It

Generally, high doses of niacin are used to control specific diseases. Such high doses must be prescribed by a doctor who will increase the amount of niacin slowly, over the course of 4 to 6 weeks. Take niacin with meals to avoid stomach irritation.

Daily recommendations for niacin in the diet of healthy individuals are:

    Pediatric

    • Men, 19 years and older: 16 mg
    • Women, 19 years and older: 14 mg
    • Pregnant women: 18 mg
    • Breastfeeding women: 17 mg

    Alteration In Air Pressure

Vernon et al. briefly describe a device developed by R. Sandlin that has produced short-term relief in a single patient with a roaring, low-frequency tinnitus and a history of otosclerosis. Apparently the device fits tightly into the ear canal and is equipped with a syringe and a valve that allow the patient to increase the resting air pressure in the space between the device and the tympanic membrane. The procedure is described as awkward but very effective for this patient. It is asserted that it is fairly common to observe relief from tinnitus as a consequence of a change in the resting air pressure, as occurs in routine tympanometry .

Tjernstrom manipulated the relative air pressure in the middle and outer ears of patients with Meniere’s Disease and found that an overpressure in the middle ear produced decreases in the tinnitus, vertigo, and low-frequency hearing loss that are characteristic of this disease, as well as decreases in the feelings of nausea and fullness. It is reported that attempts to incorporate such pressure changes into a treatment regimen for Meniere’s Disease is being attempted in Tjernstrom’s laboratory in Malmo, Sweden .

    Treatment Of Niacin Deficiency

    • Niacin supplements

    • Other B vitamin supplements

There are two types of niacin supplements: nicotinamide and nicotinic acid. Pellagra is treated with daily doses of nicotinamide taken by mouth. Nicotinamide, unlike nicotinic acid, does not cause flushing, itching, burning, or tingling sensations.

Because people with niacin deficiency often have other nutritional deficiencies, eating a balanced diet is important. Supplements of other B vitamins are also taken.

    Precautions Of Taking Niacin Supplements

Supplement overdose: Too much niacin could cause brain ...

If your doctor does recommend niacin supplements, keep the following in mind. If there are any doubts about the niacin dosage, be sure to double-check with your doctor on how much niacin is too much.

    • Taking an aspirin 30 minutes before the niacin dose might help the side effects of flush red skin and a burning, tingling sensation of the face and chest.
    • Alert your doctor if you have a history of diabetes or gallbladder problems. People with stomach ulcers, liver disease or kidney disease should not take niacin supplements.
    • Never take niacin within two weeks of a schedule surgery.
    • Remember that niacin increases histamine, which can make allergies worse.
    • Taking any B vitamin, such as niacin, for a long period of time can lead to an imbalance among the B vitamins in your body. Therefore, it might be best to take a B-complex vitamin to ensure no imbalances occur.
    • Due to the risk of heart rhythm changes, those who have unstable angina or coronary artery disease should never take niacin supplements without the doctors permission.
    • Niacin can lead to drops in blood pressure. Anyone who has a history of low blood pressure should be carefully monitored while on niacin.
    • Those who have a history of gout should never take niacin.
