Tithing Strengthens Your Relationship With God

How to Sign God Bless You (in ASL)

This is a very important biblical principal that is not well appreciated. Tithing has an effect on your spiritual relationship with God and vice versa.

Matthew 6:20-21 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

In this passage, Jesus is contrasting storing up treasures on earth with storing up treasures in heaven. You store up treasure in heaven by giving your money to God, which begins with tithing. I want us to concentrate on the last phrase in these verses. You might want to underline it: For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. In other words, your heart follows your treasure. If your treasure is in bank accounts and IRAs on this earth alone, your heart will trust in them for your future. If you have laid up treasure in heaven through tithing, then your heart will trust in God for your future. As a pastor, I have learned that tithing is a fruit of a spiritually mature life. Every spiritually mature person I have ever met has been a tither, the two go hand in hand. Tithing strengthens your relationship with God.

Expect Blessing In Proportion To Your Giving

Tithing is the starting point for giving in Gods Word. As I mentioned last Sunday, Ive tithed since I was 4. Tithing is not an issue for me, nor is it for many in this church who have been blessed through it. The Bible speaks of giving tithes and offerings. Offerings are money that is given over and above a tithe. What is Gods blessing with regard to offerings?

Luke 6:38 give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.

The basic principal is that the more you give, the greater the blessing you will receive. Expect Gods reward for tithing.

Id like to invite Sarah Broadbent up to share an encouraging story about how God has been faithful to His Word in the finances of Eric & Sarahs family. Thank you Sarah. Its amazing how God blesses when you obey His Word and put Him to the test. As He blesses, your faith grows so that He can entrust you with a greater blessing, so that you can give even more to extend Gods kingdom. God rewards those who earnestly seek Him by obeying His Word in their giving.

Today weve looked at what Gods plan of tithing is all about. God challenges us to test Him by giving Him the whole tithe. He promises to reward you by pouring out a great blessing. God wants everyone in this church family blessed in their giving. Take God at His Word. Test God in giving and experience His blessing in your life.

How Do You Respond When People Say God Bless You

When someone says, God bless you, what I want to say is: He has. And Hes blessed you too. So lets stop talking like religious nuts and have a conversation like normal people.

I mean look, if you only say God bless you because you want someone to say God bless you back, is that really going to be much of a blessing for either of us?

Also, can we really call down the blessing of God upon our lives by appending every conversation with the words God bless you?

I always wonder if men who say this greet their wife and kids the same way when they leave for work or get home in the evening. Im leaving for work! God bless you! or Honey, Im home! God bless you! I really doubt it. But then, since Im not a God bless you sayer, I dont really know what happens in God bless you homes.

Why Americans Say Bless You When They Hear Someone Sneeze

EXPLANATION: When someone sneezes in the UnitedStates, more often than not someone else says Bless you! The phrasefirst originated as God bless you.

PROPER RESPONSE:Thank you!

Below are just a few of the multiple possibilities for its origins and no one is exactly sure of the right answer.

ORIGIN 1. People used to believe a sneeze caused someone to expel their soul out of their body, and so God bless you or Bless you was used as a protection against the devil snatching your soul.

ORIGIN 2. During the Middle Ages in 14th century Europe, the bubonic plague was widespread. Because it was usually a fatal disease, and people were often very religious, the phrase God Bless You offered a benediction to someone who might no longer be living soon.

REASON #1. Nowadays, it is generally just meant tobe the polite thing to say, which is probably the main reason why this practicepersists.

SIDE NOTE: In place of Bless you, some Americans also sayGesundheit, the German word for health. The appearanceof this phrase was due to the numerous German immigrants who moved to theUnited States. Many Americans do not even realize this is a German word .

A FUNNY STORY: Once when my mom was visiting me inGermany where I lived temporarily, she commented that it was strange there wasa magazine called Gesundheit. She wondered aloud why would there be a magazine with the titleBless You. I laughed, explaining that the word meant health, not bless you! ~Dana

How To Be Blessed Financially

 Bless You In Sign Language

Today, we are continuing our message series, Gods Plan for Your Finances. The Bible is the most important book on the planet, bar none. Yet few people take it seriously, even many Christians really do not either study the Bible or apply what it says to their lives. Many like some parts of the Bible, but other parts just dont make sense to them. If something doesnt make sense or seems too difficult, they just ignore it. However, God gave us His Word in order to teach us how to live a successful life. Success in Gods eyes is discovering Gods will and then doing it. Listen to how God wants you to be a success.

3 John 1:2 Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul.

Gods will for your life is that all aspect of your life go well and that you are in good health, just as your soul prospers. The language of this verse is a prayer, but if you look closely, it is really a wonderful, but conditional, promise from God. Let me rephrase it so you can understand what Gods Word is saying here. If your spiritual relationship with God is prospering, then God will cause you to prosper in all other respects and give you good health. On the flip side, if your relationship with God is not doing well, the other areas of your life, including your health will not do well. Another way the Bible teaches this principle is in terms of blessing and curse.

How Can Organizations Become More Accessible To People Who Are Deaf Or Hard Of Hearing

One of the most effective ways a church can better serve people in their community who use sign language is to hire a pastor who is deaf, said Bob Rhoads, pastor of First Baptist Church Alexandrias Deaf Congregation. The principle applies to any organization hiring staff from a particular community can improve support and representation for members of that community.

Personnel who are deaf or hard of hearing will bring an understanding not only of the language but also of the lived experience of having difficulties hearing. Training, hiring, and supporting them is essential to ensuring those in the deaf community have representation in leadership and know that their presence is valued.

At the same time, all leaders need to be educated about communicating with the deaf and hard of hearing population. This responsibility cannot only belong to staff members who are deaf.

Churches, for example, without the resources to hire a full-time pastor can still structure worship services in a way that better supports people who sign. Rhoads offers the following advice for organizations:

What Better Way To Let Others Know You Care Than To Repeat The Blessing With Roots Centuries Deep

I sneezed the other day near our washing machine and my wife, who was walking by in the hall, said quietly, Bless you. The words floated toward and into me, no doubt accompanied by the droplets and aerosol weve all grown to fear in our confusing, confining and confrontational age of COVID-19.

And perhaps for that very reason, in a time of hyper awareness of our own mortality, of strangers, and above all of those we love, it seemed the first time Id ever really heard those two monosyllabic words strung together, Bless you.

According to the kind folks who publish the Oxford English Dictionary, bless comes from the Old English bldsian or bltsian, which is based on bld blood originally perhaps mark or consecrate with blood.

That meaning was later influenced by the Latin benedicere to praise, worship, and later, the OED tells us, by association with bliss, as in todays somewhat annoying phrase: Follow your bliss.

Ancient cultures long associated sneezing with danger to the spirit or ones health.

Still, it wasnt until the turn of the seventh century and an outbreak of the plague that Pope Gregory I, according to church historians, suggested his followers say God bless you after someone sneezes in hopes that small prayer would protect them.

    Understand Gods Plan Of Tithing

ASL Minute – God Bless You

What is tithing? Tithing is Gods starting point for being blessed in giving. Tithing is giving 10% of your income to God through the local church. Tithing is proportional giving. The more income you have, the bigger your tithe is. The less income, the lesser your tithe. The Bible speaks of tithes and offerings. An offering is a gift beyond 10% of a tithe. We encourage everyone to give regular offerings to missions by making a Missions Faith Promise. More information on faith promises for missions is in the brochure rack in the foyer. The principle of tithing began in the Old Testament long before the Law was given by God. Abraham and Jacob tithed to God before the Law of Moses. Tithing is mentioned in the Bible over 50 times, both in the Old and New Testaments. Why would God want His people to give 10% of their income back to Him?

    Tithing Shows Gratitude To God

Proverbs 3:9-10 Honor the LORD with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine.

The firstfruits mentioned in this verse were the first 10% of the harvest. It was given in gratitude to God for the harvest. Tithing is a way to honor God by acknowledging that all you have came from Him. It is a way to say thank you to God. This verse is both a command and a promise. When a person honors the Lord with his tithe, the promise is an overflowing blessing. Not only does tithing show gratitude to God, but

Why Do We Say ‘bless You’ Or ‘gesundheit’ When People Sneeze

Many people have become accustomed to saying “bless you” or “gesundheit” when someone sneezes. No one says anything when someone coughs, blows their nose or burps, so why do sneezes get special treatment? What do those phrases actually mean, anyway?

Wishing someone well after they sneeze probably originated thousands of years ago. The Romans would say “Jupiter preserve you” or “Salve,” which meant “good health to you,” and the Greeks would wish each other “long life.” The phrase “God bless you” is attributed to Pope Gregory the Great, who uttered it in the sixth century during a bubonic plague epidemic .

The exchangeable term “gesundheit” comes from Germany, and it literally means “health.” The idea is that a sneeze typically precedes illness. It entered the English language in the early part of the 20th century, brought to the United States by German-speaking immigrants.

Virtually every country around the globe has its own way of wishing sneezers well. People in Arabic countries say, “Alhamdulillah,” which means, “praise be to God.” Hindus say, “Live!” or “Live well!” Some countries have special sneezing responses for children. In Russia, after children are given the traditional response, “bud zdorov” , they are also told “rosti bolshoi” . When a child sneezes in China, he or she will hear “bai sui,” which means, “may you live 100 years.”

Expect Gods Blessing In Every Area

Malachi 3:10b if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.

What kind of blessing can you expect by tithing? Well, first of all you can expect a blessing in your finances. You are sowing financial seed, you can expect to reap in your finances. What will blessing in your finances look like? Ultimately, it will be to have enough to tithe, to meet your needs and some more to be generous with on top. Some people have not been following biblical principles for many years and are in a very big hole financially. It may not completely turn around in 6 months, but I believe you will see progress. Gods blessings for tithing are not just restricted to your finances. You will see blessing in your relationship with God, in your family and in your job. Expect Gods blessing in every area.

How Can Churches And Other Organizations Be More Accessible To People Who Are Deaf Or Hard Of Hearing

    How to say

Churches help people better engage with their communities by meeting specific needs: providing nursery care for children, offering large-print Bibles to those with limited vision, building ramps for individuals using wheelchairs or strollers. But the needs of people who are deaf or hard of hearing may go unnoticed and unmet by those planning services or large gatherings.

Around 3.6 percent of individuals living in the United States describe themselves as being deaf or having serious difficulty hearing, according to the 2017 Annual Disability Statistics Compendium, based on the American Community Survey by the U.S. Census Bureau.

God Bless You And Other Christian Lingo

Worse yet are the conversations that not only begin and end with God bless you statements, but are also full of statements like, What a blessing! An answer to prayer! God is so good. That just blesses my heart. Oh, bless your soul! Praise Jesus! Amen!

I am not much of a conversationalist, but my conversations with people like this usually end much quicker than normal. I have written about this before in a post called This Video Really Spoke to My Heart.

Maybe this is just the overcritical me coming out to snarl at the super-spiritual Christians again. If so, Im sorry.

But what about you? Do you say, God bless you? Why or why not? Am I making too much of this?
