How To Troubleshoot Problems With The Resound Smart/smart 3d App
Jun 2, 2021 | Hearing Aid Repairs, Hearing Aids, Patient Resources, Technology, Troubleshooting |
As I am sure we are all aware by now, life does not stop simply because we are experiencing this global pandemic. We still need to go grocery shopping, send and receive mail, pay bills, and in many cases, make appointments with our physicians.
As North Carolinas most trusted hearing & audiology experts, we have found ourselves needing to find a new way to continue to care for our patients despite social distancing.
To work with this new normal, we introduced Tele Audiology back in May 2020 at the start of the national lockdown.
Our patients can use this service to schedule virtual appointments and get advice on their hearing concerns and hearing aid assistance to the same standard that they would receive during an in-office appointment.
Aside from having face-to-face video appointments, our patients that wear ReSound devices may be familiar with Remote Assist, a feature available on the ReSound Smart and Smart 3D apps.
Audiologists can remotely adjust and fine-tune a patients hearing device without unnecessary in-person contact.
Of course, with new technology comes new challenges, so I wanted to take a moment to address how to utilize the Remote Assist feature for ReSound users and go through essential troubleshooting tips for ReSound hearing aids on the ReSound Smart/Smart 3D app.
Can You Use Insurance To Buy Hearing Aids Through Resound
Some health insurance plans offer coverage options for hearing aids, but it depends on your individual plan. While ReSound doesnt offer any manufacturer programs for pricing or discounts, the company says that dealers may offer payment plans, and some insurance companies may offer discounts in lieu of coverage.
If you have original Medicare a Medicare Part A and Part B plan alone hearing aids arent covered. However, some Medicare Advantage plans, which are Medicare plans offered by private insurance companies, may include hearing services as part of a package for an additional cost.
If youre a veteran of the U.S. military, you may qualify to have hearing aids covered by Veterans Affairs.
How Do You Know If You Need One Or Two Hearing Aids
The need for one or two hearing aids is dependent on the degree of hearing loss experienced. Hearing loss in one ear naturally dictates that you require one hearing aid only, and the same goes for hearing loss in both ears. However research has shown, regardless of the degree of healing loss, wearing hearing aids in both ears significantly improves speech clarity and the reduction of background noise.;

My Hearing Aids Were Already Paired But They Wont Connect
You may need to delete the pairing and start over. But before you do that, try these things first:
- Turn your Bluetooth off and then on again to see if the hearing aid connect properly.
- Power down your iPhone completely and then turn it on again. Hearing aid manufacturers recommend powering down your iPhone at least once a week to reduce connection issues. This is achieved manually using the button on the side of the phone but differs by the iPhone model. You can easily search on the internet to find out how to turn off your specific iPhone model using the buttons. Also, in the latest iOS, there is an easy way to turn your phone off:
Now turn your phone back on by pressing and holding the Power button until the white Apple logo appears on the screen. Once the logo appears, you can let go of the button.
If youve already tried these things, but the hearing aid still wont connect, you will have to delete the original pairing and then re-pair them again.
Here are the steps to delete the pairing:
How Much Do Hearing Aids Cost
The average price for a pair of hearing aids is $4,672, according to a survey of more than 2,000 hearing aid consumers by HearingTracker.com. This price typically reflects warranties and audiology services. Hearing aid costs depend on provider, level of technology and features.
Manufacturers dont set pricesproviders do. Hearing aid prices are often bundled with services that provide ongoing help with fit, cleanings, repairs and upgrades. And the cost of running a hearing clinic varies regionally. Thats why hearing aid costs vary widely.

Are Hearing Aids Covered By Medicare
Medicare and most private insurance plans dont cover hearing aids. Some plans, including Medicare Advantage, pay for some costs.
The Veterans Administration covers hearing aids in many cases. And many federal workers, including retirees, may have hearing aid benefits through the Federal Employees Health Benefits program.
How Does A Hearing Aid Work Diagram & Breakdown Below
Here’s how a hearing aid works:
- Small microphones pick up the sound around you.
- These sounds are analysed by a processing chip.
- These processed sounds are then sent to the amplifier.
- Amplified sounds are then sent to the loudspeaker.
- Then the sounds are sent by the loudspeaker into the inner ear, through tubing in an ear mould in the ear canal, or through a thin wire to a receiver in the ear.
- In the inner ear, these sounds switch to electrical impulses.
- Impulses are finally sent to the brain where they are processed.

How To Pick The Best Hearing Aid For You
Hearing aids are medical devices regulated by the Food and Drug Administration. Theyre sold and fit by state-licensed hearing care professionals; audiologists have the most training. Five manufacturers dominate the market and produce hundreds of types of aids with various components and technology levels.
The best hearing aid type depends on your hearing loss, lifestyle and preferences. There are three basic types of hearing aids:
With aids that house some or all components behind the ear, two kinds of parts go in the earan open-fit dome or a closed-fit mold. Many people like the feel of an open-fit dome. It lets some hearing pass in naturally, but this may interfere with sound quality. A closed fit, custom-made ear mold may result in the best hearing but users have to adjust to the stopped up feel.
Acoustic fit is how well an audiologist programs the aids to your specific hearing needs. Physical fit has to do with how well they fit in your ear, which affects both hearing and comfort.

Some Helpful Troubleshooting Information
- Always check to make sure your phones software is up to date! You will not always get a notification when a new update is ready to be installed, to make sure to check in your settings regularly.
- Having too many other apps running can cause issues with the connection between your hearing aids and the app, so that might not work as well or run slower.
- Refresh your Bluetooth connection every few days! All you need to do is turn it off and then back on.
- As noted above, make sure to restart your phone at least once a week; this gives it a chance to close unused apps and background programs.

How Should You Care For Your Hearing Aids
Hearing aids should always be stored in a dry safe place, away from children and pets. Hearing aids should be turned off and battery compartments lefted open when they are not being used. Regularly cleaning battery components and wax filters of dust and invisible ear wax also increases their longevity and durability.;

The Best Hearing Aid Technology
Most hearing aid manufacturers offer four levels of technology, such as basic, standard, advanced and premium. The higher the tech level, the more sophisticated the hearing processing and options for customization. Also, the higher the cost.
Data shows that standard aids, properly programmed for your specific hearing loss, offer good performance for most people, says Palmer. Many providers can adjust and upgrade your hearing aids remotely to keep them up-to-date with your hearing even if mobility or health concerns prevent in-person visits.
Many hearing aids have a telecoil, or a tiny copper wire that enables people to hear better in venues wired with an audio induction loop, a type of assistive listening service technology. Hearing loops are becoming increasingly common in theaters, schools, and other facilities.

I Have An Android Device And Im Having Trouble With Wireless Streaming Or Phone Calls
Its important to know that only specific models using the Android operating system are capable of wireless audio streaming to ReSound hearing aids.
You can go to ReSounds website to check if your Android phone is compatible.;
Besides, phones must be running Android v10 or later. Before doing anything else, try restarting your phone. If that doesnt work, delete the Resound Smart/Smart 3D app from your phone and reinstall it.
Then, reconnect your hearing aids IN the app. The Bluetooth pairing of ReSound hearing aids with Android phones is ALWAYS done in the app, NEVER in the phones Bluetooth area.;
To that end, Android phones are very friendly and will sometimes pair in the Bluetooth area on their own. If youre having problems pairing, check the Bluetooth area of your phone and delete any pairing of the ReSound hearing aids.
If all of those things have still not solved the problem, there are two main ways to fix it:
Are There Problems With Resound Hearing Aids
There is the chance that ReSound hearing aids may work ineffectively if batteries are depleted, if wax filters become blocked, or microphone and microphone tube break. ReSounds hearing aids can also produce unclear or distorted sounds because of weak batteries, a poorly fitted microphone tube and damage to hearing instruments. ReSounds hearing aids can also produce excessive whistling sounds when hearing aids arent inserted properly or microphones are not properly seated.;
