Apple Ios 13 Is Causing Connectivity Issues For Hearing Aid Users

How to pair ReSound Hearing Aids to an iPhone

by Dr. Lacey Brooks, CCC-A, FAAA – Doctor of Audiology | Oct 24, 2019 | Industry News, Technology

If youve recently been experiencing issues pairing your ReSound hearing aids with the Apple iOS 13 update, then you are not alone.

Weve recently received calls from our patients who are in the same position and need help. Although it seems there is a problem with the hearing aids, you can rest assured that this is not the case.

The issue is with the new Apple update, which now requires users to give permission to pair an external device to their iPhone. Previous to the update, you were only required to have your Bluetooth turned on for your hearing aids to connect successfully. The difference now is that you have to give each app permission to use your Bluetooth.

As a result of this, people are experiencing significant problems with connecting their iPhones & tablets to their hearing aids. Additionally, this bug has caused issues for people trying to connect their iPhone to their car stereo, and connecting to wireless headphones has also been a reported problem.

If you, too, are finding that your hearing aids are not pairing with your iPhone correctly, then do not worry. The Apple iOS 13 software has not been successful in doing what it initially set out to do. With a promise of a more user-friendly experience, the update has done quite the opposite, affecting functionality and connectivity for many ReSound hearing aid users.

How To Troubleshoot Problems With The Resound Smart/smart 3d App

Jun 2, 2021 | Hearing Aid Repairs, Hearing Aids, Patient Resources, Technology, Troubleshooting |

As I am sure we are all aware by now, life does not stop simply because we are experiencing this global pandemic. We still need to go grocery shopping, send and receive mail, pay bills, and in many cases, make appointments with our physicians.

As North Carolinas most trusted hearing & audiology experts, we have found ourselves needing to find a new way to continue to care for our patients despite social distancing.

To work with this new normal, we introduced Tele Audiology back in May 2020 at the start of the national lockdown.

Our patients can use this service to schedule virtual appointments and get advice on their hearing concerns and hearing aid assistance to the same standard that they would receive during an in-office appointment.

Aside from having face-to-face video appointments, our patients that wear ReSound devices may be familiar with Remote Assist, a feature available on the ReSound Smart and Smart 3D apps.

Audiologists can remotely adjust and fine-tune a patients hearing device without unnecessary in-person contact.

Of course, with new technology comes new challenges, so I wanted to take a moment to address how to utilize the Remote Assist feature for ReSound users and go through essential troubleshooting tips for ReSound hearing aids on the ReSound Smart/Smart 3D app.

    New Features And App Upgrades

    Danes debut Bluetooth

The companys All Access Directionality is designed to automatically adjust the directional microphone patterns based on the environment and still monitor the sounds around them. In noisier situations, All Access Directionality utilizes the companys new binaural connection to create a stronger, more focused beam for sounds in front.

Another recent addition, exclusive to the ONE, is the newly launched Face Mask program. This new program is designed to help compensate for the speech frequencies muffled by face masks, and can be added to the hearing aid program list. The new program can even be added remotely by the hearing professional, using the companys ReSound Assist Live telehealth platform.

A new Ultra Focus setting is now available in the companys Smart 3D app. This is a user-activated feature through the app that allows you to narrow the focus of the microphones in front towards a person speaking.

We found this new Ultra Focus feature to be quite effective at focusing on the speaker in front, while also not substantially reducing audibility from around the wearer.

According to the company, the Ultra Focus setting is achieved by using the speech frequencies for targeted directionality and the high and low frequencies to monitor the environment, they can hear speech and still maintain spatial cues from the sides and back.

Like the Quattro before it, the ReSound ONE offers direct audio streaming capability to iPhone and .

Unfortunately troubleshooting the problem is just that, it could be the hearing aids, it could be the phone. I would start by clearing out your phone, all open apps, deleting the hearing aids from the phone and then restarting the phone and pairing the hearing aid to the phone again. If it happens more, I would double check the phone is within a few feet of your hearing aids. If all of this doesnt help then I would send in the hearing aids for repair and if it continues then I would replace the phone.
