When you know how to pair hearing aids to an iPhone, youll be able to control your hearing aids from your phone. Oticon Opn More Made For Iphone Problems

In my last article I discussed the Widex Beyond and the problems it is having with the iPhone. In this one, we will take a look at the Oticon Opn, which is having similar difficulties. In fact the online forums and in particular the Apple community forum is abuzz with the issue. As with the Widex Beyond, the problem isnât really the hearing aids, itâs the iPhone. Which is a shame, this is another case of a fantastic set of hearing aids being let down by a separate technology, just like the Widex Beyond.

About a month ago we became aware of a lot of issues around Made For iPhone hearing aids and connectivity to the iPhone. We have been researching the issues ever since. The issues reported with the Oticon Opn are similar in nature to the issues reported with the Widex Beyond. All of the problems seem to be related to the Bluetooth pairing of the hearing aids to the iPhone. During transmission of audio from the iPhone, it appears that the audio signal is dropped constantly by one aid or, it seems that the signal may jump from one ear to the other for no apparent reason.

However, Scott said that he had found a workaround and it seemed fine for him:

Iâve found that re booting my iPhone 7plus, then opening the battery compartments on my Opn MiniRites results in a good connection. I just paired my iPad mini2 to the MiniRites last evening following the same procedure. I use the Oticon Opn app on the phone and the iPad.

Eargo Neo Hearing Aid

For as long as hearing aids have been around, the rather obnoxious design that is easily visible to everyone around has made them unappealing. Borrowing state of the art design from the latest set of TWS earbuds, enhanced even further with comfort and functionality, the EARGO Neo is the next generation of hearing aids.

Battery: Based on the manufacturers test, the EARGO Neo can last up to 7 days without needing to be charged up. The hearing aid case doubles up as a wireless charger, allowing you to fully charge the earbuds in 6 hours, so it is recommended to leave the hearing aids charging overnight.

Connectivity: EARGO Neo is a BLE device that maximizes battery life while offering you wireless connectivity with mobile phones and other smart devices. The hearing aid comes with a companion app that not only allows you to toggle through different sound settings but also uses the cloud and app connectivity to enjoy a personalized listening experience.

Design: Focusing deeply on the visual aesthetics suited best for the hearing aid of modern humans, the EARGO Neo offers a barely there look. The Flexi Palms design allows for easy airflow even with the hearing aid placed inside firmly, while the stainless-steel finish of the hearing aids makes it durable, and well-shaped for in-ear fitting too.

  • Our Widex Moment Verdict

Lacking previous experience with hearing aids, its tough to issue a fair verdict. What I can say is that I did notice a significant improvement of my hearing on both my weak and my strong ear.

What I loved most was amplifying the volume on my weak ear. Being able to dial up my hearing felt almost like playing with a Bond gadget.

I was impressed with how quickly the AI removed background noises and external distortions. I enjoyed being able to customize the sound for different environments and activities.

It would be great if it was possible to save modifications to the default programs loaded onto the hearing aid or add custom programs to the hearing aid. And I wish Widex had combined the carrying case and the charging unit. Moreover, a charging unit with an internal battery would be a lot more useful. At a price point of up to eight thousand dollars per pair, these seem like reasonable features to expect.

If youre in the market for a hearing aid, I would strongly encourage you to compare a few different models before you settle on one. This is a significant investment, not unlike a car. If youre attracted to super light AI-powered rechargeable Bluetooth hearing aids, you should definitely test drive the Widex MOMENT.

What If My Hearing Aids Can’t Connect

A streamer links your mobile phone to your hearing aids.

If your hearing aid doesn’t include a feature for direct streaming from your smartphone to your hearing aids, don’t worry. Manufacturers of wireless hearing aids long ago created a clever solution for accessing this prevalent wireless standard. Wireless hearing aids can use compatible assistive listening devices, often called streamers, to provide a communication link between the wireless technology in the hearing aids and any Bluetooth-enabled device.

The wireless hearing aids can be paired with the streamer, and then the streamer can be paired with external devices. When its all set up, the streamer will pick up the Bluetooth signal from your phone, for example, and send it to your hearing aid via an FM signal or electromagnetic field, depending on the manufacturers design. Usually, the streamer is worn around the neck or placed in a pocket for hands-free operation. Speak to your hearing care provider about the best streamer option for you.

    New Channels For Socializing

Starkey Bluetooth Pairing: How to Pair Your Bluetooth Starkey Livio Hearing Aids to Your iPhone

You are not alone. Most people who have hearing loss have a hard time socializing with people who wear masks or practice social distancing.

However, life does not need to be bleak on the social front.

Bluetooth hearing aids allow you to stream your audio to video conferencing applications. Zoom, Skype, Facebook Messenger, and Google Hangouts also allow group video chats from any computer. If you have a Mac or an iPhone, FaceTime is another option for socializing. And this small list only scratches the surface.

The key ingredients for all of these are a computer and an Internet connection. By connecting your Bluetooth hearing aids to a computer, youre opening up a world of communication. Sure, its easy enough to type, but to visually see each other while conversing, can help you feel closer as if you were sitting in the same room with your loved ones.
