You can bring your earmolds to your audiologist or hearingcare professional to have them re-tubed. You can also ask your audiologist toshow you how to re-tube your earmold yourself.
To re-tube your earmold, follow the instructions below. Youwill need new tubing and a small pair of scissors.
Diy: Changing Your Hearing Aid Tube
You can change the tube yourself at home, but you may require extra tools to help with the job. Tube threaders and tube expanders can be purchased separately, or purchase the complete tube change kit ensuring the tube is replaced securely and correctly each time.

Hearing Aid Tubing Decoration And Colours
You may be happy with a see through and transparent hearing aid tubing option but for some the idea of it being inconspicious is a little boring. There are a number of fun options to decorate your hearing aid without it harming your sound quality. You can get different coloured tubing options from a translucent pink to suit a skin tone to a bright pink to show off your personality. You can get blue, yellow, green and red tubing, different colour options are something you will need to purchase. You do need to be careful where you have bought it from and that you don’t just colour them yourself as you might find with moisture build up the colour rubs off onto your ear.
Other hearing aid tubing decorations are jewels and fun characters that attach around the tubing. In the UK there are couple of small bussiness out there that have developed such decorations as hearing aid wearers themselves or parents to children who are hearing aid wearers to add a bit more jazz to them. What I would say is be careful of the weight of the item, if you choose to wear a decoration on your hearing aid tubing. You do not want to compress the tube preventing the sound from getting through.

Hearing Aid Maintenance: Cleaning And Retubing
Hearing aids need regular maintenance to ensure they continue to work well. We recommend cleaning your hearing aids with a wipe after you remove them at the end of the day.
Ear wax is an important lubricant to the ears but it can also block the hearing aid tubes resulting in a weaker or distorted sound. We recommend cleaning your hearing aid using a red cleaning wire if you suspect a blocked tube. Blocked tubes are the most common reason hearing aids stop working as well as they used to. Please order new cleaning wires by sending us a stamped addressed envelope and we will post you back supplies.
Ordering replacement tubes:
If the cleaning wire has not unblocked your tubes, send us a SAE and we will post replacement tubes out to you. We recommend getting new tubes on an as needed basis, but as a general rule it is a good idea to get your tubes changed every 6 months.
How to replace a tube
Pull the old tube out, and push the new one in. We recommend replacing one tube at a time, so the left and right tubes do not get mixed up. Do not remove the dome to clean it as it will weaken the connection to the tube, which may cause it to detach in your ear. If a dome does get stuck in your ear, visit your local minor injury unit or GP for safe removal.
Retubing Your Hearing Aid
Another important actvitity in keeping your hearing aid tubing working to its best is having it replaced when needed. This occurs every 6-9 months, you will find the tubing starts to become more rigid and solid which will start to lessen the sound quality that you hear through your hearing aid. Having your hearing aid retubed can often be an overlooked activity and when you think your hearing aid isn’t working as efficiently as it should be it can often be the tubing.
Retubing your hearing aid is something you get done at your local audiology department or the hearing centre that provided your hearing aid. If you have had this done a few times and feel more confident having a go yourself it is a good idea to have a chat while you are having your hearing aid retubed for them to demonstrate how to do this yourself at home. They will usually give you a leaflet and a couple of spare tubes of the correct size for you to try doing at home.

How Do I Change The Wax Trap
All hearing aid manufacturers have different designs of waxtraps. Most wax traps have a stick or handle with a new replacement wax trap onit. The other side has a point on it that is used to take the old wax trap out.When the point is inserted into the old wax trap, it will connect. When youpull it out of the hearing aid, the old wax trap should be attached to it. Youcan then insert the new wax trap into the hearing aid.

How Your Hearing Aids Work
Your hearing aids are programmed to your individual hearing loss. Although hearing aids will help you to hear sounds that you could not hear well before, they cannot restore all of your hearing. In this way they are different to spectacles, hearing aids are an aid to better hearing not a complete cure.
Many people with age related hearing loss find soft speech is difficult to hear clearly and it often sounds as though people are mumbling. Examples of the softest parts of speech are the consonants s, f and th. Hearing aids can make these sounds louder and clearer, and therefore restore better speech understanding.
It may take time to adjust to using your hearing aids. This is to be expected as you are hearing more sounds than before. You will hear the soft parts of speech much more clearly. You will also hear soft sounds in the general environment better too, such as a clock ticking or a tap dripping. Hearing all these environment sounds may seem rather loud and noticeable at first, but these sounds will become less intrusive after you have worn your hearing aids for a while. Your audiologist will recommend how often to wear your hearing aids at first to acclimatise, with the aim of being able to wear them comfortably for most of the day. What Is A Wax Trap
Wax traps are smallplastic pieces that are attached to the hearing aid. The purpose of the waxtraps is to prevent wax, debris, and moisture from getting into the receiver of your hearing aid. This is very important. If wax, debris, ormoisture does get into the receiver, it could affect sound quality or cause thehearing aid to malfunction.
When Should Tubing Bechanged
Over time, the hearing aid tubing can become brittle andhard and may even crack. Additionally, wax and debris may collect in the tubingand earmold. This can greatly affect the sound quality of the hearing aid andcomfort of the hearing aid on the ear. Earmolds should be re-tubed every fourto six months in order for the hearing aids to continue working at optimumperformance.

In that spirit, the following components are parts of a modern receiver-in-the-ear hearing aid, also known as receiver-in-ear or receiver-in-canal . Its the most common type of hearing aid sold today.

When Should I Replacethe Domes
Hearing aid domes, whether open or closed, should be changedevery few months. Some hearing care professionals may recommend dome changes every1-2 months, while others may recommend a slightly longer period of time. Eitherway, domes need to be changed regularly in order for sound quality to remainclear.
All styles of domes, whether open, closed, or power, can becleaned in between changes with a small brush or wax pick provided by yourhearing care professional. Just use the brush regularly to remove wax anddebris from the end of the hearing aid.

Looking After Your Hearing Aid Tubing
If your hearing aid has an ear mould you are most likely to have a plastic tube that has been cut and tapered to fit securely in your ear mould. At the other end the tube will attach to your hearing aid. This type of tubing will get brittle over time and will need replacing about every 6 months to keep it working efficiently. Moisture can be another element that causes a problem with this type of tubing. If you suffer a lot with perspiration, sweat or moisture build up around your hearing aids, there is a likelyness your hearing aid tubing will block up with moisture. This can be the case as well if there is no air circulation getting into the ear which is normally provided by a vent in the ear mould.
Some tubing are also made with a cut tapered end. This allows for easy application into your ear mould. A hearing aid tube is cut to fit the mould and also cut to measure up neatly to match up with the hearing aid. This allows the hearing aid to sit comfortably behind the ear. If the tubing is cut too short it can feel tight or if it is cut too long the tubing will make the hearing aid sit higher allowing it to move off the ear.
Cleaning Your Ear Mould And Tubing
To keep the inside of the hearing aid tube clean you will need to take the hearing aid out from the top of the tubing . This is because you can simply slot back in to the tube to the hearing aid, but the mould has the tube fitted through it professionaly.
You will be left with the mould and the tube still together and the hearing aid separate, put the hearing aid in to its box, or hearing aid dryer.
The ear mould and tubing can then be flushed through with warm soapy water, we recommend a neutral PH and plant based soap. This will help to remove any debris or wax in the tubing. Wipe dry the outside of the ear mould and tubing before giving it a shake off any excess water and leave to dry for a number of hours . If you notice any wax to the entrance of the tubing that will not budge this can be removed with a pin or a hearing aid cleaning tool. Giving your hearing aid a wash is an activity that should be done regurlarly to keep it working well.

How To Insert Your Hearing Aid
Hearing aids are colour coded with red markers indicating the right aid and blue markers for the left. You will see the colour markers if you open the battery door.
How to turn your hearing aid on and off
The battery compartment is the on/off switch. When you put your hearing aid on, close the battery door. When you take your aid off, open the battery door to turn it off. If you have poor eyesight you can feel for the catch on the battery door, underneath the hearing aid.
How Will I Know Whenthe Wax Traps Need To Be Changed
If your hearing aid is dead despite using a new battery, orif your hearing aid sounds weak even though your volume is turned up, it mightbe time to change your wax guard. Take a good look at the wax trap on yourhearing aid . See if you can tell if the wax trap is plugged up with wax. Most waxtraps have several holes in the bottom that can be seen with good vision. Ifthe holes in the wax trap are blocked, then you know it is time to change thewax trap.
